The Trademarks
There are many different signature trademarks that Michael Jackson has made famous throughout the course of his lifelong career. Some of them are often imitated, but they can never be duplicated.

Michael has made these things symbols that people around the world will always remember him by and associate him with. Always unique in style, Michael once wrote, "My attitude is if fashion says it's forbidden, I'm going to do it."

Socks and Loafers

You can't have one without the other. Michael's white socks and black loafers are probably the most widely recognized trademark that people associate with him. The socks, sometimes sparkly, accentuate and bring attention to the amazing footwork that he does on stage. Despite being teased by his brothers about it in the beginning, Michael writes in Moonwalk, when he reached the height of his fame it became a popular and cool trend. This trademark is so popular that it even became the official logo of Michael's former company, MJJProductions.

The Glove

Michael says that one glove is cooler than two, and well, it definitely is. The sparkly white glove is one trademark that can only be associated with Michael Jackson. If you see someone with one white glove, you immediately know who they are imitating. Sometimes Michael wears a black glove, but on stage, during his famous "Billie Jean" performance, it always has to be glittering white. "It's so show business, that one glove. I love wearing it."

The Fedora

Although Michael wasn't the first to make the fedora popular, Michael made it such a trend for younger generations, that many performers still follow it today. After the famous performance of "Billie Jean" that Michael did at a Motown anniversary special in 1983, the white glove, sparkly black jacket (another famous trademark), and the especially the fedora were all made into popular trends. Michael wears his fedora not only on stage but also as a part of his everyday wear. Michael's fans love to see him  wearing his fedora.

The Armband

Any big fan of Michael Jackson will know that he very obviously has a great liking for military styled clothing. Armbands can be seen throughout history on the arms of many soldiers, especially in Nazi German history, often seen with an embroidered swastika. Michael, who has always advocated peace, has taken the armband, rid it of any discriminatory meaning, and made it into his own symbol of love. Michael once said that as long as there are children suffering the world, he will continue wear his armband. That wasn't a lie, as it isn't often that you will see Michael without one on his right arm. It is almost always customized exclusively to go with a certain outfit with different colors, patterns, sequins, or all of the above.

The Jackets

Since even as early as the 70s, a lot of the stage costumes designed for Michael and his brothers had a military theme. The theme stuck for Michael and ever since then Michael's jackets have become famous for their soldier-like style. There are however, a few exceptions to the military influence. The red jackets he wore for his "Thriller" and "Beat It" videos became big fads for young people in the 80s. Then there is the famous black sequined jacket made popular by his on-stage performances of "Billie Jean." Whether they are sparkly, shiny, elaborate or plain, Michael's signature style always shines through.

The Belts

Michael has always liked to decorate his always trim torso with elaborate belts. Usually custom made like the rest of his wardrobe, the belts are obviously meant to draw attention to his hips, which on stage, never stop moving. Sometimes just one and oftentimes a number of them at the same time, Michael's belts are one of kind.

The Cast

Michael seems to love integrating objects usually used to heal or protect from wounds into part of his costumes. Perhaps there is a hidden meaning behind them, as Michael has always said that we need to 'heal the world.' The arm cast, usually white but sometimes black, Michael sometimes wears on stage as a part of his tour costumes. The arm cast is something that he started in the 80s as with most of his other trademarks. The younger generation of performers today have somewhat followed suit. Many of them often wear gloves of a similar nature, proving that Michael really is a trendsetter.

The Fingertape

The white bandages that Michael wears on his fingers are another trademark that Michael can exclusively take credit for. The finger tape is always seen worn on  his  index, ring, and pinky fingers and never on the middle finger or thumb. Probably seen for the fist time with the release of his "Bad" album, Michael has managed to make wearing bandages look cool.

The Kneepads

Only Michael Jackson can take kneepads and make them a fashion accessory. Seen more often starting in the early 90s, Michael's custom made kneepads are always an eye-catcher. Michael likes to wear them both on stage as costumes and as a part of his attire during public appearances. The kneepads certainly do add a more militant look to any costume.

The Sunglasses

Sunglasses are a must for almost every major celebrity. Worn both indoor and out, sunglasses complete Michael's superstar look. Almost always an opaque black, Michael's sunglasses make him seem all the bit more mysterious.
